HEPA Plus Carbon Air Purifiers

HEPA plus Carbon air filterThis unique air purification system does much more than other air cleaners – it not only filters out particles with a HEPA filter but also harmful chemicals, gases, and odors with a large activated carbon bed. Enjoy a healthier life style by breathing purer and safer air without gases and odors! For more info on types of air purifiers, activated charcoal, gases and radon, visit How to Choose an Air Purifier

Unique five-stage filtration to trap gases, odors, as well particles:

  • Cleanable pre-filter traps large particles.
  • Anti-microbial filter suppresses bacteria and viruses.
  • Activated carbon filter absorbs noxious gases and odors.
  • Anti-microbial filter suppresses bacteria and viruses.
  • HEPA filter to trap particles as small as 0.3 microns.

We are the authorized dealer for AllerAir Industries. These air purifiers are widely praised for superior performance, high quality, and provide the best value for the money. Low price and easy maintenance. Smart design with a variety of colors to choose from. Extended manufacturer’s warranty (5 years labor and 10 years parts).

Not sold in stores but delivered directly to your door by courier.

  • Robust metal housing of 18 gauge steel. (Other air cleaners are housed in plastic that off-gases vapors.)
  • Compact and portable, 4 casters for easy maneuverability.
  • Cylindrical shape for best airflow, which maximizes filtration and avoids stale air in corners.
  • Dual airflow system - air enters vertically at the bottom and exists horizontally at the top. This avoids contaminated air by-pass and increases the effective cleaning range.
  • A quiet fan system.
  • 3-speed fan rated 400 cfm, which allows a rapid room cleaning with turbo-setting, as well as a quiet overnight use.
  • Silent motor pulls the air through the unit and gently pushes it out, emitting a soothing white noise.
  • Closed and sealed motor windings with minimal varnish ensure clean and quiet motor operation.
  • Anti-microbial filters – the carbon bed is wrapped in 2 anti-microbial filters to suppress any microbes.
  • Glueless felt gasket. (Most other cleaners use glued rubber gaskets that give off odors and vapors.)
  • Variety of colors, baked enamel finish or a scratch-resistant textured “hammered” finish.

Low Operating Costs

  • Low electricity consumption – the motor (95 watts) consumes the power of a single 100 W light bulb. That is only pennies to operate this air purifier 24 hours a day.
  • Easy-clean pre-filter, which can be removed and vacuum-cleaned in 30 seconds.
  • Low cost of replacement filters.
  • Separate HEPA and Carbon filters which can be changed individually at different intervals, reducing filter replacement costs.
  • Versatility – you can even take out the HEPA filter and run the purifier only as a Carbon filter, or vice versa.

Little Secrets about Sizing …

Once you purchase an air purifier, you want the piece of mind that your family is breathing pure, healthy air. But you may be disappointed when your child’s allergies do not improve. You have been likely sold an undersized air purifier, which cannot do the job! Now, you are not sure if air quality is the problem and if you should buy a larger air purifier.

Stores do not provide a full disclosure on the real life performance of air purifiers. This keeps it simple for the consumer as well as the staff.

The stores use the manufacturer’s specified maximum cleaned area, which is purely theoretical, based on the purifier running at maximum speed in a room without obstacles to air flow like furniture. In real life, the noisier turbo-speed is used only for 10 minutes, during the initial air cleanup. The machines are normally run at medium speed or in the low quiet mode for sleeping.  Moreover, the adsorption of gases by carbon filters is more efficient at a slower airflow.

Many manufacturers use the theoretical fan performance to calculate the air exchange rate. But in real life, the fan has to push the air through filters, which greatly reduces the actual airflow.

We use and explain the real performance of air purifiers.

Selecting the Air Purifier Series

Cleaning the indoor air of chemicals and gases is at least as much important as filtering out particles. This is why our air purifiers contain 18 to 36 lbs. of activated carbon, not just several token ounces.

Series 5000 is most popular, great for a living room or for extra pure air in a bedroom. Available in a wide choice of colors; the hammered pewter finish is very practical.

Series 6000 is taller, has significantly more carbon and a larger HEPA filter. Cleans a larger area, particularly of gases. It is ideal for finished basements and for reducing gas levels, as well as for large rooms upstairs. Also great for bars, restaurants, and dry-cleaning shops.

Selecting the Air Purifier Model

Series 5000 and 6000 air purifiers include a large carbon bed 2.5 to 3.5 inches deep, depending on the model. The Exec models are used for all-purpose cleaning. The D and DX models are suitable for higher concentrations of gases, odors, airborne chemicals, and tobacco smoke.

 Model Executive D DX
HEPA filter 1” HEPA micro-HEPA wrap micro-HEPA wrap
HEPA efficiency 99.97% at 0.3 micron 95.00% at 0.5 micron 95.00% at 0.5 micron
Carbon bed thickness 2.5” 3” 3.5”
Carbon weight - Series 5000 18 24 27
Carbon weight - Series 6000 24 28 36

The carbon filters typically have to be replaced after 2 (or up to 5) years, HEPA filters after 5 to 7 years. Since activated carbon can adsorb up to 60% of its weight, this dramatically demonstrates how much more chemicals and gases are there to be removed from the indoor air than particulates! And a large carbon bed is a must for basements in order to reduce gases.

Air Exchange Rates

This provides a true comparison among air purifiers. For example, an air purifier that will clean (exchange) all the air in the room twice every hour is better than one that cleans it once per hour. There is no hard rule but some allergy authorities recommend one or two air changes per hour. Because turbo-speed is used for the initial cleanup, is noisier, and consumes more power, we will assume a medium speed.

Example:
Let us assume a large room 20 by 25 ft. (= 500 sq. ft.) and 8 ft. high (500 x 8 = 4,000 cu. ft.) and that the air purifier at medium speed cleans 80 cfm. (cubic feet per minute) or 4,800 (= 80 x 60) cubic feet per hour. This will clean more than all the air in the room in one hour … 4,800/4,000 = 1.20 Air Exchanges per Hour.

In the calculations below, we will also use an 800 sq. ft. room 7.5 ft. high (= 6,000 cu. ft.), like a finished basement room.

Series–6000  Model Executive D DX

800 sq. ft. room 0.88 0.91 0.94

Sizing Criteria to Consider

  • Anybody in the family already has allergies, asthma or other symptoms?
  • Is it a modern energy-efficient house with a low fresh air infiltration?
  • Is it a new house with lots of chemicals off-gassing from wood, carpets, etc.?
  • Does the radon level in basement or on the main floor exceed 2?
  • Where does your family spend most time and what is the room size?

When chemicals, gases, radon, and odors are of concern, select an air purifier with lots of carbon. This particularly applies to new houses and basements, as well as offices.

If anybody has allergic symptoms, select a purifier to provide a high air exchange rate per hour. If necessary, get two air purifiers.
